Just like to say I'm very happy...

... with my new camera. No fancy DSLRs, just a compact point-and-shoot; the Canon G9. Love how I can now manually change aperture, shutter-speed, ISO etc, but the Auto function is good for most snapshots. I was particularly impressed by the macro quality; it would focus perfectly well under 1cm. I was taking pictures of my Apple Snail (who was on the other side of the glass) in my fish tank through the glass, which is maybe 4mm thick.
Sooo, I just wanna say I'm very happy with my purchase, and it will take a lot for me to convert to the mysterious (and expensive!) world of SLRs. ;)

Well, the G9 is no ordinary point-and-shoot camera. In fact, I don't even classify it as such. Any camera that offers as much manual control as the G9 isn't really a point-and-shoot, even if it is somewhat compact and has P&S capabilities. And the G9's image quality is as close to a DSLR as I've seen in a compact digital camera. It's a really, really nice camera.

Please post a review for your G9! User reviews are the foundation of PhotographyREVIEW.com and I know we need more reviews for the G9.

Thanks. Yep, I don't see the point, when I'm still a beginner to photography at least, in spending 10 times as much money buying a DSLR when all I need is in the G9.
Yeah, I'll write a review when I find some time to do so.

Congratulations on your new camera! I have the G9 also and just love it. I agree with Photo John that it's a step above your normal p&s camera. I've discovered you can also get excellent results right out of the camera.

These were some of my first photos shot with the G9 - most of them with no post processing except for resizing. A couple of them I tweaked with brighten/contrast in Elements2.

I look forward to seeing your photos.
