    50mm 1.4 doesn't focus

Do the Ultrasonic motors go out on these. Funny thing is it won't manually focus either, turning the ring does nothing, What's up with this thing?

Is your camera on AI servo?

No, it's set to AI Focus. Other lenses work fine even my 50mm 1.8. If I turn the focus ring I can here the motor kind of skip otherwise it doesn't make a sound.

Makes no difference. All Canon USM lenses have full time manual focus.

    Photo Rookie.

Sounds like you got one of the bad ones. There seems to have been a run of Canon 50mm f1.4 lenses that ended up with focus issues like you are having. Is it under Warranty? If so contact Canon support to arrange for it to go back for repair. If not, you might want to see how much Canon wants to fix it or new lens time. That will be up to you.

Canon will fix for $90, seems like a good deal to me.
