    High School High Jump

On this last Saturday my son participated in a multi-school Track Meet Relay. Now my son does the shot-put and discuss but they did have the throwers run a 4x100 relay. Between taking some shots of my son I was able to capture some action of the high jumpers. So here are some to share.

Very nice indeed. Love the high jump, you can get some great images. It's all about getting the right angle on the jumper. Unfortunately all are meets are in the late afternoon and our pit is east west facing so you invariably end up shooting into the sun.
Don't forget about the Gallery. Are your photos there??

Looking good, as I'd expect from a 1D and L glass

My picks would be #4 for the face, and the last one for the shadow.

    Homer.....

Nice pics.... The hight jump is a great event to shoot. You can get some great expressions. I also like the shot-put and the discus (as I was a field event man myself). The one of your son running is the best. It is moments like this that stay with athletes.

Tell your son good luck in the season.

Thanks Homer, I was trying to forget that track begins soon Coe to think of it that may be next week. I have decided that T&F is a pain to shoot with some much going on in so many places, or your just sitting around waiting

Nice job on these though, especially on the bottom considering the lighting.

In football, how often are you switching back and forth? Do you have two bodies? The 300mm is on a monopod right?

Once I do the football portraits this season I may take my profits and buy the 300mm. Then I go back to, do I really need it? It's is just too much of an over the top purchase for me?

Hey BFiredup, for these I have the camera set on aperture priority at f/2.8 with an ISO of 100. If I remember correctly, the shutter was around 1/4000 or 1/5000.

Hey JETA, for football I strickly use the 300 on a monopod. I don't have second body yet. I'd love to get the MK III but can't swing the money, so I'm thinking about the 40D as a second to put my 70-200 f/2.8 on.

    Oh good !
    Flyball with Collies?
    Agility with a Sheltie?
    Any fast moving Afghan

They tried racing Afghans at the greyhound track where I used to work the photo-finish.
    Disaster !
A huge shaggy pile-up at the first corner.
They solved it by only running 4 dogs instead of 6 to give them room to run the bends.
