    Blizzard Birds

Our wild and weird week of weather ended with a snow blizzard of historic proportions here in central Ohio. Starting Friday afternoon and ending Saturday early evening, we received 20.5" of snow. Despite a Level 3 snow emergency in our neighboring county (where I shot these), I wanted to see how the wildlife was faring.

Shot at a park near a birdfeeder. The desperate state of the birds allowed me to get really close to them. It took me a few minutes to notice a red-tailed hawk sitting quietly in branches about 25' feet away. But he was against the white overcast sky so I didn't shoot him for than a few images.

Anyway, my 3 month old Canon 40D died right there on the spot. Will have to see what Canon has to say about that.

    Nice shots as usual !

Sorry about your Canon. I'm not sure what they'd say to you, but I'm quite sure they won't ask you to switch to Nikon though

Thanks for taking the time to look and comment.

Yeah, the camera thing is a bummer. The strange thing is, I've had the 30D out in colder temperatures for a lot longer. This time, as before, I had snow accumulating on the inside of my 300mm lens hood. I actually thought that my lens might start giving me problems earlier in the day because of the weather - ironic timing. We'll see. I put a thread in the Canon forum and will update it once know what happened and what the fix is/was.

One last shot from that day. This shot seems to accurately represent the general feelings of the critters that day...

Nice shots Loupey! I too am curious about the verdict on your 40D. We are coming into the rainy season here in another 6 weeks or so, and I need to be sure the 40D can handle that! If it makes you feel any better, I had a casualty this weekend as well. Dropped my 300mm f/4 and it landed right on the front element. No damage to the tube, but the front element has some significant scratches. I'll be shipping it back for repair.
