    Wood, metal, paper

I read recently that says something like "One does not choose what to photograph; a photograph comes to you." I don't know what it means. But here's a photo I took today kind of spontaneously. I saw it, I took it. There's not a particular story behind it. And it doesn't deliver any message. It was just something that caught my attention on my way back to office. It is what it is: just an image.

Ahh, just as my power outlet came to me . . I wish I could have described that image for you as eloquently as you have done with yours lol

I like this alot. It is a very worthy subject, one that I see everyday but never thought to shoot. The only thing that bugs me in this is the blown out piece of paper in the middle. Keeps pulling my eye back to the center when I'm trying to scope about. You could easily darken it or take it out altogether.
    Nice find and catch.

That blown out piece of paper bugs me, too. But, I only had a full-auto-dummy-friendly camera with me. So, whatever the camera wants to do, I have no say

That is a great subject and the composition of the image isn't bad but the quality of the image suffers.

I'd say go back in better light with your good camera or just stay on the lookout for something similar.
    No, I DON'T need that.

Do you have Photoshop? If you do, it would be easy to darken the paper.
    Interesting picture.

I would not clone out that paper, just tone it down a bit.
It's an obvious reminder of a recent message pinned up there (to a tree?)
It's brighter then the older bits of paper and shows it it still in use.
Clone it out and I think part of the story is gone.

I do have photoshop. Right now it's 254 all over RBG. So details are gone. I suppose I could replace it with some other darker color

Exactly why I did not clone it out. I definitely agree that it'd nice to have some details there.

But that wouldn't be spontaneous any more, would it?

I particularly liked the pic because I had so study it before I realized what it was. It brought back memories of all the yard sale signs I put up as a young lad in a small town in the Ozarks. Thanks for taking me back to my youth.

I seem to agree with everyone else. The paper needs toned down and it also needs a little more detail. With the right quality file this would make great large print.

    Re: Wood, metal, paper

I think it's a good subject, quite different. I do wish there was a stronger central area to look at - the paper doesn't quite do it for me - but it works without one. Quite grainy here.. maybe that's the intention (I haven't read all the other posts)? It does seem to be post processed, not in a wild way but more to adjust a bad exposure or something. But you may also have done the grain like that on purpose.

Btw, I like that saying! Even if it does sound like Obe Won Kenobi said it first.

Tried to salvage that piece of paper as much as I could. Otherwise, the overall exposure is ok.

But you may also have done the grain like that on purpose.
Or, it may have something to do with the camera: fujifilim f40fd, a small 8mp digicam. Even if it was in ISO100, the quality of the file is still worse than one from a dslr. After all, the sensor is small in a digicam.

I've looked at this several times. I like it but... hate that word sometimes, especially when I'm not sure what the 'but' leads to.
I'm wondering if it would work better if it was taken at more of an angle instead of so straight on. Might need to lose some of that dof.
    Not sure.
