    Fire and Ice

Playing around with some night photography during our recent ice storm.

    Thoughts?

i like them, the 2nd one maybe could go a bit darker just to bring out some of the black detail but over all i love them great work!

I prefer the first image for its tonal range and contrast. I would like to see a bit more at the top of the frame as it has a compressed feeling.

I bet a closeup of those icicles with the flame in the background would be pretty neat too.
    No, I DON'T need that.

I also like the first one for it's deatail and exposure. By having the fire in the fg of the second image it seems to have washed everything out.

I like the first one. Congratulations on your view selection. Makes for a very interesting photo. I would crop out the left side or right side of the chair. As is, it looks a little too symmetrical. Hope this helps.

I appreciate all the feedback. I was freezing my bum off lying on the frozen ground. (Next time, I'll lay down a tarp.) I'll go back into Lightroom and try some of your suggestions. Thanks for your input.

    Re: Fire and Ice

My best suggestion is to get in closer. There's another world up close - ice crystals are great - but do you have a macro? If not, try getting/zooming in as far as you can go and then do a crop. Use a tripod for best results.
