    Villefranche-sur-mer

    Location: Villefranche in southern France
    Nikon D70
    1/60 sec (handheld) f8

I fell in love with European architecture and the narrow streets. Feedback on this composition would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Wow, great colors. Are they real?

Other than the lamp being cut off at the top I like it. I would even like to see a bit more at the top and bottom.
    No, I DON'T need that.

Yes the colors are real... with a 5% boost in Saturation in PS.
You're absolutely right about the top lamp being cut off. It should be either in or out. I'll have to watch out for that next time. Thanks.

I have to agree with MB1 on the lamp. He usally calls them right. Still a great picture. The laundry hanging out to dry is a nice added bonus. Well done.

Nice colors and textures. My only quibble is the strong vignetting around the edges. I like the darkened area to accentuate the center, but I don't think the rounded edges help with all the other angles in the shot.

Beautiful colors and great subject. I love these scenes as well and can't wait for the opportunity to get to Europe myself. I agree about the lamp. Probably stepping forward a bit to get underneath it and eliminat it would have been best. It sort of competes with the hanging laundry, and the lamp in the bg would be enough. The heavy vignetting is odd. Was this a very wide angle lens with a filter on, or did you add the vignette?
Still a pleasing image to view.

In my attempt to vignette the corners to bring the viewr's eye into the composition, I obviously got carried away and darkened the corners too much. It's so obvious now that you mention it. Thanks for pointing it out.

Ahh, I see. You know, there is alot to work with here. I tried a crop from the top just below the fg street lamp and then crop from both sides to keep your aspect ratio. It looked very good and would look even better minus the vignette.
Give it a shot and see what you think.
