400 miles and 5 decent images

It sure is hell when a person has to drive so darned far to find something worth shooting. I envy those of you that have wildlife practically in your backyard. My photos sometimes cost me close to $50 each. It's just not fair. :cryin:

    Nice BE shots there, Mike.

I know how tough it can be for a nature photog once the snows come. Just think close, think small (unless you have vast landscapes nearby), and think common. Try some different and new ideas on common stuff. Who knows, it might just get you hooked on doing it year-around. I like to think most of my subjects are the common and mundane - just shot differently.

Beautiful eagle shots! I'd have a heck of drive to find those.....

It's -34 this morning with the windchill at -47. I don't think I'll go look for wildlife at all......maybe in June.

Well worth the expense in my opinion. Great shots.

Re: 400 miles and 5 decent images

Mike great shots. At least you can drive to photograph this kind of things. Around here in late winter, you can't even do that. All we have are crows, magpies and a few sparrows. With the cold weather we have now, even they have gone for warmer pastures, but being the optimist that I am, I realize Spring is on its way and it is only a couple of months and a lot of other birds will be back or migrating through - can't wait.

    Cheers,

Love the eagles and the lone mallard the best. Where did you go to in order to get these shots?

The swans and trio of mallards were shot along the MN river in the twin cities. The eagles and lone mallard were shot along the Mississippi river near Red Wing, MN.

Mike, I'm going back in about a month. We should meet. I think it'd be a blast. It's about 3 1/2 hours to Red Wing, for me.

    Thanks BFiredup.

Mike, I just checked and it's 216 miles for you, 15 miles farther than for me.

That's a little farther than I thought, but still doable. Things are going to be pretty tight for me until after our big trip, but I will keep it in mind. Let me know when you will be going that way,and I'll see if I can make it.
