On Friday night, the eve before the reopening of the Omaha Mall, I took some photos of people and the mall entrance where a deranged gunman killed and wounded many. I found it difficult shooting these photos. Trying to capture something about the feeling of the place. From 9:30 to 11:00 people came and paid their respect, left flowers and moved on.
Workers came and went. They appeared to be people doing basic carpentry and painting work.
It was extremely low light. I used a tripod for many of the shots. I tried to capture people without being to obtrusive. I watched as other photographers would run in tight on everyone who walked up near the steps. I appreciate their desire to catch the personal reflection but at the same time I found it uncomfortable - three photographers approaching just a couple of people standing on the steps.
Comments welcome. What would you do to shoot these scenes differently to capture the moment?
