    Washington Monument Sunrise

It was in the teens this morning but I wanted to catch sunrise at the snow covered grounds of the Washington Monument. The Crescent Moon and Venus were a nice bonus.

Just about froze my hand off taking my outer glove off to set these pix up.

    A small price to pay.

Beautiful colors as always. Not sure about the bicycle though. I guess wanted something in the foreground....I wonder if it could work by simply lit up the path a bit, show some details of it...

I like the second one. I like how you framed the shot with the limbs and used the sidewalk to lead into the subject.

Does Washington D.C. have an official photographer?

I like the second best as well, excellent framing. Beautiful how you got the moon in there and a star also. Colors a bit too vivid for my tastes, I think it makes the monument look a hair surreal, probably just me. As a cyclist I also like the shots with the bike in them :-D

I am always amazed when I see your shots. You have so many photo ops out in the DC area. I like how you are getting the different shots than the normal "touristy" shots from there. We were out there this past summer (one of these days I will get to them shots) and I got some nice shots but most are the normal "tourist" shots as we were only out there for about 3/4 of the day and into the evening - the shots available to a photographer at night are just amazing. I see from your shots the morning is just as nice if not better.

It is a place I will definately go to again with more time. Great photos - really like the 2nd one

The second shot is a winner. Great use of the tree for framing. i think the moon and Venus will look alot better in a larger print than here.. . a bit too small and speck-like.
Also, i really like the composition of the 3rd shot. nice placement of the focal point as well.
    good work, MB1

    Re: Washington Monument Sunrise

MB - It's good, but not significantly different than some of the others you've posted. I suspect you're looking for that undisputable perfect shot of the Monument. I like the stars but there's not enough of them

How about a time exposure of it at least an hour long, where the background stars a rotating across the sky. Tricky exp between background and tower, and not sure that there isn't too much light contamination in DC, but it might work very late night.
