Roadside Attractions:South of the Border - Dillon, South Carolina

Hi Everyone!
It's been a while since I've had some time to post. Traveling again. Here's one I'm working on. I'd like your opinions on which works better or if either work at all.
Comments and critiques welcomed. Suggestions cheerfully explored, but please leave the editing to me.

Nice shot CL. I prefer the one w/o the (aircraft door?) edges. That sign is definitely worth the effort to shoot. Nice, clean countryside out there......

judging by the shadow you were in a "ride" or similar perhaps ??
the first one i like the little motorway loop that takes me around the "lake" and onto the motorway.

I like the top image for the distortion and the shadow of the tower (I assume that is where you were shooting from). I wouldn't say that these are great art photographs but either one would be a top notch vacation shot-might even sell as a postcard.

Thanks for the response. This was taken from the top of a giant sombrero over looking northbound I-95, the shadow of said sombrero can be seen in the corner of the first pic. This is the mother of all tourist traps on the North South corridor and they have billboards for this place every mile and a half for a hundred miles in either direction. The fisheye did a nice job of exaggerating the distance but I had to shoot through a chain link fence that surrounds the top to protect idiots from themselves, hence the "border". I've got quite a few from this place that I'm going to be sorting through so thanks for the thoughts.

MB1 - Perhaps not great "ART" I agree but if you're doing a series on kitchy americana roadside stops, it would be remiss not to include it.

My instant reaction to this was - "Can I have a Go, please, PLeeease"!

A lovely capture, I really like the one with the two trucks.

Ha! It looks so fun doesn't it! Thanks Roger, I think the shot with the trucks is my favorite of the two as well.

The elevator to the top is $1 a head and smells of stale pee. [ Eeewww!!] I realized afterward that the poor guy that takes you to the top has to sit in the closed elevator while you wander around inspecting the platform. I'm sure he was sorry he won my trip up as I puttzed around with the camera for a while up there. The top of the sombrero is covered in signatures and cartoons of "Pedro" some entertaining, some rude. But I tell you what, if you are a bus load of teenagers on your way through South Carolina and they let you out here, you'll think you've been delivered into the promised land. Someday I'm going to come back just so I can rent the "Heir-Conditioned" Honeymoon suite, complete with sombrero bed and really take my time exploring the place.:thumbsup:
