I like this one very much. It reminds me of a scene out of Dr. Who with all those blank human forms. The child running around the edge certainly makes it for me and chimes with your poetic title so nicely.

Rewards looking deeper into the picture, beyond the statues.

Its an interesting shot and the child does add but I have no idea what I'm looking at.
Is it common practice in London to randomly stick human forms into the pavement?
Just curious basically as to what's behind these.

Tom, I agree with the other comments in that this is a very fine image. i like how you caught the running child in the bg. I am wondering if there is any point of view that could have all the figures seperated and not overlapping, but I do feel you have brought it to us as best as it could have been. I like this alot.

Nice work Tom, with the white grass a child running by it takes an IR look. The banner in the upper right could be a distraction with a large print, you should clone it or remove or blur the letters.

I'm wishing the kid was a larger part of the image-although it is quite good as is and a nice use of B&W.

I'm thinking that cropping some of the foreground and from the left up to the second statue would tighten things up nicely.

Excellent image - one minor nit pic from me is I wish you had more of the cobbles in the front of the image as it would complete the obvious circle even better.

Thanks so much to everyone for taking the time to comment and I hope you don't mind if i reply in a general sort of way.
More seperation between the metal men would have been ideal. But I had to work pretty fast as you can imagine on this one and my main concern was to get the child in between the men rather than concealed behind. The ground is in fact gravel but it certainly has that IR grass effect to be sure. I had spent some time on the sign as it was very strong. I tried to clone it but thought the result I got was even worse, so I left well enough alone.
It would be a much stronger image if the ring of paving was complete (especially given the title) but to be honest at the time of shooting I never even noticed the circle.
The shot was taken around Woolwich arsenal in london.
I am attaching another just to show you that they really do hang out in London.

An interesting image Tom...One of those images that would only work in mono..I find it daunting, dark (not in a tonal sense) and menacing..The motion blur of the figure adds to the mystique..

The more I look the more I see..It has definitely held my attention.

I agree with the others, this is a very nice shot. I really like how you've captured not just a child among these ... things..., but that you've captured a child moving through them. The B&W is done very well too. Nice tones and sharpness.
