Interesting find Jurgen. I've seen fully tattooed monks before but, never in that style. Usually the tattoos are more of a tribal nature. You've been getting some good shots during your time there. Been watching your PBase gallery as well. Keep up the good work

He should get his money back as they missed a bit around the eyes and ear. How in the name of Buddha was he admitted? Not surprised you got a bit of a shock.
Very interesting image Jurgen. It's a pity that old bowl thingy gets in the way somewhat.

I have a total lack of respect for anything connected with society, except that which makes the roads safer, the beer stronger, the food cheaper, and the old men and old women warmer in the winter and happier in the summer. Brendan Behan

Surely an interesting subject. nice sharpness in the eyes. I agree about the bowl being i the way somewhat. Still, the subject matter is strong. Very unusual, I think.

Thanks everyone..Overbeyond,,,In Laos every young male will take the robes and bowl at one stage in his life,,,usually in the period after leaving school and beginning a career or family..Being Theravarda Buddhists it is an extension of their education..Most will learn a skill whist at the monastery usually English language..There are no contracts and a young monk could stay anywhere between a few weeks to a year..Of course some stay for life..

Monks are non-discriminatory..I think this guy joined at an older age and looking at him is in for life..

I think so, his eyes do not look as if he is at peace.
I can't remember the exact quote, something along the lines of the monks in a monastery being like pebbles in a bag, polishing each other ...

You are probably right SmartWombat..Looking at him he comes from the remotest area of Laos where foreigners rarely travel..Having 6' 190lb foreigner pointing a camera at me would also make me feel uneasy..
