    Setting Suggestions

I'm new to the photography scene and I was hoping to incorporate it with my passion for automobiles. So, I bought a Powershot A640 because it seemed like the best bang for the buck and its all i could afford.

When I'm shooting cars though i never can really get the right setting to get the best picture. Does anyone have any suggestions.

    Thank you

    Re: Setting Suggestions

First off welcome to the forum,
I looked up the model on Canon's website and by the looks of it you should start off in either "Auto" or "P" Program mode. You should get use to the camera after a while and be able to use the manual modes to get the best pictures.

p.s. Post some of those car pictures so we can see your work.

Experiment a lot. I see this camera has several different scene modes (night snapshot, kids and pets, etc) and some of these modes might help depending on ths situation you're in. Those modes will program the camera to adjust the shutter speed, ISO, color balance and aperture based on those types of situations - but regardless of those names some of them may help with automotive photography.

Well are you shotting racing or car show photos? The shutter lag will make taking that perfect photo on the track hard as you have to set up you shots by pressing the shutter half way and wait for the car.

In door car shows are hard due to the lighting, mainly the lack of light.

You just have to get to know you camera and what it can do. So go out and take photos. The nice thing about digital you can up load and see how you did with out any cost but for your time. Please note the small screen on the digital camera will not show focus but once you get it on the monitor you will see the focus and depth of field. Please check out some of the DOF threads.
