    Neptune Revisited

I thought about this one and decided a straight on shot just didn't have any excitement so I went back and got this side view.

I include here the complete image and the whole split into 2 so you could see some details.

    Thoughts?

    Re: Neptune Revisited

I like the color of the sky in these shots, but it seems like the color in the fountain is too monotonous to see anything of importance. Is there a time during the day (sunset or sunrise) that the sun would be to your back? Or maybe on a nice, dull, overcast day you could get a nice b+w out of it.

I think the colors are great. The lit background, however, does seem to make it difficult if not impossible to get proper light on the statues.
I'll ask my amateur question. Would fill flash help with the statues or would it also wash out the background too much?

Crop out the "modern" bar at the top....it draws the eye away from the subject.

I think it would work better on an overcast day when the lighting was soft. I just don't see enough details in the statues to make them out. Maybe try a zoom lens and do a portrait shot.

I'm thinking about printing this one really large.

Otherwise as you point out the details get lost. That would also allow it to be a panaroma and I could crop out the stuff at the top that Len finds problem with.

    Re: Neptune Revisited

aah mb, never having had the pleasure to visit d.c. i WOULD very much like to see a daylight panorama of this ..

either sun set, sun rise matters not but i think judging from the few pictures that you have posted, a panorama would be fantastic.

as you know i am very new to this but i visit another forum and they have posted some FANTASTIC panoramas. i am sure that they are very difficult and a lot of work, but from what i have seen these panoramas are breath taking... i suppose that if i took a panorama of my living room it wouldn't be that interesting and it is obviously the subject matter that makes it, but it seems as though this is a very interesting subject judging from the views that you have posted, and perhaps panoramas don't fall into "photography" ~ i don't know BUT i know that they can show something in ONE shot that you couldn't get in perhaps 10.

maybe an interesting exercise in and of itself, but i for one would be interested in seeing one.

    cheers
