    Lite Menu

I've seen kestrels eating these and I assumed RT hawks do also - just never actually caught any.

Protein is protein. Still, I'm sure it wasn't as satisfying as a nice plump, warm, hairy, juicy mouse or vole - prepared rare

The "attack" was completely different. A gentle gliding approach at a shallow angle of attack. Nothing like the steep, near free-fall that I've seen before.

Nice capture Loupey. From what you said, I assume that the hawk takes them right out of the air as they are flying(?).

    Re: Lite Menu

    Thanks for looking, guys.

WesternGuy - no, the grasshopper was definitely on the ground and I had no idea that the hawk was even getting a meal. It flew to the grassy knoll as straight and casually as you would see one approaching a tree to perch.

Actually there is thread titled "encroachment" in the Viewfinder Forum that was actually the first shot in this series. Only after a saw it bring up the grasshopper did I stalk around to get a clean background for this shot. Otherwise, I thought it was just landing.
