London Underground - really & truly the last

Hi all .. I went for my very last trip to the London Underground today (my permit expires tomorrow *sob*)

Here are two from this shoot ...

The first was taken somewhere I have been before, but I liked these new iPod adverts and how the colours reflected on the ground and how the man reflected in the glass.

The second is part of a modern art installation on a disused platform - it just struck me as incongruous.

As always, any comments are appreciated. I will be meeting with my mentor this coming Monday to select my final 15 for my panel.

    Cheers

Well you have the exposure and color balance nailed but these don't really seem as exciting as some of your others.

Of course the real deal is how the 15 you select work with and compliment each other. The top one could work well with other shots of individuals in a bustling metro system.

The bottom image just misses for me. If the whole face on the wall was showing and you still had the blurred train I might like it better (or not....).

Still the whole thing looks like a great project.
    No, I DON'T need that.

The fact that the man is serious and conservative looking contrasts well with the Pod (I hate even mention of the word!) sort of figures on the boards and you got the perfect reflection too.
The second is typical of the sort of images I really like; unusual and a bit weird. In this one the colours come through very strongly and the single yellow line at the bottom is most effective.
The movement looks computer generated but I apologise now if I've got that wrong. Excellent addition to your series.

Thanks guys for your comments -

MB1 - I don't personally consider the Panda one to be one of the better ones myself, although I quite like the other one, not least because it prints up pretty well. The key (as you hint) is not necessarily to pick the "best" 15 - but the 15 which sit together best as a panel, and which both "tell a story" and displays a personal style. It's a difficult art, especially as it might mean rejecting pictures which I am personally rather fond of. That is exactly why people going for distinctions usually work closely with a mentor, who provides a more objective eye.

overbeyond - he does look a little like John Major, doesn't he? Actually the movement blur was real - it wasn't difficult to do: just focus on the panda, and keep the button pressed half-way until the train pulled out. It took a far number of shots though to get the train in the right place (at least as far as my "vision" for the picture was concerned).

    Cheers

I think the first one would stand on it's on without the guy walking. I find the charactors on the wall interesting. But it's still a good shot. #2 is splendid. I love the composition and you nailed the exposure. Nice work Mike and I hate to see your permit run out I enjoyed your pictures.

The placement of the guy really works here. I also love the fact that his reflection is captured really well. The 2nd shot doesn't do much for me though.

Greg & Leels - thanks for taking a peek

It's interesting that No 2 seems to be either liked, or not liked, depending on the viewer.

I have put No 1 in my first draft of the panel of 15 - it fits (imo) with the overall thrust of the panel I have in mind. My mentor may have other ideas however!

MB1 thanks for your interest! I will post them, probably in Viewfinder, after Monday (when the panel will be decided)
