    flowers

i know the roses, but if anyone can let me know what the others are called i would appreciate it.

we were walking along the boardwalk in la jolla (one of many beaches) and in the "back streets ~ (cue for a springsteen song) close to the beach we found this/these.

i was extremely pleased to see the colour but unfortunately didn't know (nor did my companions) or have remote clue as to what they were called.

apart from that feel free to critique ..

    Hi 3lions,
What you have there (in order) are clematis, tea roses and morning glories. Nice find, looks like it was a good garden walk or as I like to call it, Petal Patrol.

    Re: flowers

The first is pretty good except for the background.
The roses are blown out by too much light....if I have to shoot flowers during bright light, I stand so as to shadow them, the third is too busy.

    Re: flowers

Hello. The flower in the first one is a really pretty flower. The background of part wood looks different and nice. The top right corner is a bit brighter than the rest of the photo which sort of strains the eyes. The 3rd one, the detail appears to be nice and sharp with lots of strong colours coming from the two groups of flowers.

thanks for the "shadow" tip. will do that next time.

the background i couldn't do anything much about. my guess is to prevent people from picking them or pulling them, they were about 6" off the ground. maybe not, perhaps that's the only way they grow.

as you can see there is some sort of "trellis work" or whatever sort of like what one would do with climbing plants.

"busy ?" too many, too much ? how could i improve that one ?

    thanks for the tips.

    always more than helpful.

we were just walking around house that were very close to the beach, and in this part of la jolla all had inter-connecting alleyways so you could walk up and down and be nosy into peoples back yards. the flowers just caught our attention.

they certainly seemed like an oasis in what really was a clutter of peoples homes, apartments and frat houses !!

    Re: flowers

That top one is a passion flower species.
Interesting because the petals are pink and the sepals green/white, this must be a garden flower, not one of the fild varieties.

Last one looks like convulvulus, most likely morning glory.

roses were taken in butchart gardens.

that was a really exceptionally beautiful place.

one could spend hours and hours (or days even) just looking at every blossom.

they of course vary according to the seasons, so what might be there one season is not the next.

apparently you can "tour" at night also.

i can thoroughly recommend walking around. it isn't "peaceful" though obviously there are hundreds upon hundreds of folks there at any given time.

one could exhaust many images that one could desire.

if there weren't so many people there you could actually admire things but i felt like we were on a conveyor belt at times.

still it must take an AWFUL lot of time and effort, not to mention money to keep in that shape.

well worth the time if you are ever there.

    Re: flowers

By busy I meant that you have a main subject with a lot of extraneous surroundings that really add nothing to your subject, especially the blown out top.
I hope you don't mind that I did a quick crop.

    Re: flowers

yeah but i need you to crop the red and leave in the black.

also please somehow photoshop the zero's to the right instead of the left and we may have something here.

(of course crop out wells billpay and leave it somehow where i can retain the credit balances AND still keep the air conditioning on and you're most DEFINITELY a winner in my album)

cheers for the other stuff though

    food for thought
