    Kens Hand

A couple of weeks ago KenB posted an image of the hand at the Awakening (darn good photo if you ask me).

Inspired me to go back there (before it is gone forever) and see what I could do. Finally made some time late last night.

How is this for a first pass?

No processing, no nothing, this is the way they came out of the camera.

I LOVE the shadows and the way the lights make the metal shine. If I had to pick, I like the tilted shot better.

I was thinking of going back to do the same shot I took but at night with the moon backlighting it. I read that they were going to be moving it soon so I guess I better hurry.

Nice shots there MB. Great use of the shadows from the street light. I really like the off level shot, very dramatic. The statue is being permanently removed from the park but not from public view. From what I understand they are taking it to the new Washington Harbor Waterfront complex that's being built just outside of Oxen Hill. I'll have to do some more research on that though. Would hate to miss a last opportunity to shoot this statue before it gets moved. You know it was only supposed to be a temporary installation when they sunk it into the ground at Haines Point 25+ years ago.

I would plump for the angled version because it gives the photo a more dramatic feel as if the statue is grabing out to pull the earth back to the horizontal.

    Nice work

The tilted one for me as well. The shadows really make the shot perfect. I'm not crazy about the trash bin but I only saw it because I was nitpicking.

Very cool shots MB I'm leaning towards the angled one as well. My only nitpick is I wish I the shadows weren't cut-off.

That trash can drove me nuts.

There were some great angles to shoot that hand and the shadows but the trash can ended up poking out between the fingers. I'm thinking about taking a drop cloth when I go back just to cover up the can.

I'm also thinking about taking a ladder so I can shoot down at the hand and entirely eliminate the background.
    No, I DON'T need that.

All that exteraneous crap makes it challenging to shoot there.

I would also go with the angled point of view. The shadows throw longer down the frame and the background is less distracting. As Roger stated, it also lends a tension to push the imagination along with it.

Oh wow, this is quite nice. I like the B&W more as well as the tilt, it makes you feel you are really in the shot.

I'm in with everyone on the tilted one.
Is the trash can chained down.......I think the ladder is a great idea.
