    The Spirit and Image

From a show earlier this week. He was very convincing. . .

    Re: The Spirit and Image

I don't think the gals on the right are helping here. The bright one in the polka dots immediatly draws my eye and I don't think you want her to be the subject. I'd do a vertical crop with the elvis impersonator alone.

Thanks Frog for your thoughts. I agree that the girl in dots is the first place my eye is drawn to as well. Perhaps the title doesn't fit the pic. I was trying to show a wider view of the stage and include the backup singers. How about this instead to synch up with the title?

Hi Cindy---I like your closeup better. I admit to having some trouble with the polka dots myself.

    Re: The Spirit and Image

    Hi cindy,
i like both of these but would suggest just applying a slight blur to the bg singers in the 1st pic and maybe tone down the lighting on them. Also, get rid of the bright light at the top.
The second shot, the close-up, is very good but again lose the bright spot behind him.
    nice work,cindy

    Re: The Spirit and Image

I like both images. The one with the girls shows the atmosphere in the room. I think it's a really fun picture. I think the only issue is that the polka dots are such a strong pattern in black and white that they can't help but catch ones eye.

    I really like your photography.

    Re: The Spirit and Image

Cindy - Decent shot alright. I like the placement of the people in the frame, their expressions, and how the lights spice it up. It is a tad soft but given the fact that you needed to use a slow shutter that's understandable.

To be truthful I actually prefer the colors of the first post over the last.

    Re: The Spirit and Image

The 2nd one is a classic. It has a great focus on the subject's face and expression. It'd work would work beautifully as a poster (I can just see it in my head) . I'd lose that little spot behind him though.

    Re: The Spirit and Image

Thanks for the great advice again Gary! I really like this version!!

GB - It's a scooch soft, I know. I was using my 50mm 2.8 wide open and you can see the focus is on his shoulder and shirt. I have two immediately previous to this one and his eyes are dead on in the focal plane. He was just starting to break the pose when I got this one off. Even though the other two were "technically" better I preferred this one for the whole scene.

Liban - Good to see you on the boards again! Thanks for commenting. I nicked out that little light dot before I posted my final edits. Evidently Johnny's promoter got a peek inside your head because he called first thing this morning to talk pictures and posters, etc. The portrait is one of his favorite shots of the night.
