    A Sunday Smorgasbord

Sorry about being scarce lately. Weekend was a bit rough (2 full days of work plus 4 hours of yardwork on Sunday) but I did manage to get these before the yardwork (the weather was TOO nice).

All from the small, landlocked park that I used to frequent last year. Not an empty parking lot in the place. But I really wanted to try out the 180mm macro for some first true field work.

First, these macros (the bee is with the 300mm w/extension tube). Not a good test of the resolution as these are hand-held and it was a VERY breezy day. Quite maddening waiting for the wind to die down just long enough to get one shot (except #4 ).

    Then these non-macro guys.

The male/female RWB's and turtle with the 300mm (no TC nor any tubes ).

While shooting them, I noticed some movement out of the corner of my eye. It was very fast but I saw it again. A vole was darting out from the stonework monument and wreaking havoc on the landscaping. Too dark to get a good shot of him red-handed. Just some fun pics.

    Thanks for looking.

Great series Loupey love the terrapine/turtle (not quite sure ) the lighting is spot on, and to get a shot of a vole is special, over here they are quite rare and they hold special photography days to go to places where they think they are for photo shoots.

Knight - thanks for the comments. I was very happy to see that the RWBB at this park are more acclimated to having people around. Still, when that male landed, I don't think he knew I was there under a tree crouched among the tall weeks. We both looked at each other with the same expression before he took off moments later

CK - the ant is my favorite - his body language sure is funny.

Bev - the voles here seem to be everywhere. I'm sure they are the main prey at my hawk/kestrel fields. There are worn tracks of pressed grass half hidden in the fields. Once in a while, I see a vole running along them like a toy train engine on a track. Good eating!
