    The Bokeh Challenge Thread

Hey you nature nuts, I wanna see your best examples of bokeh from your nauture shots. Please include the camera and lens you used.

In case anyone doesn't know, Bokeh is defined as: A Japanese term for the subjective aesthetic quality of out-of-focus areas of a photographic image.

I will get the ball rolling with an image that I think may be my best example of bokeh.

    Camera: Canon EOS D30
    Lens: Sigma 70-300mm

Here's mine (it's been seen here before) .. it's a Meerkat at Bristol Zoo in England. Camera was a Pentax *istDL and it was the shorter end of a Pentax 80-320 lens.

Great idea for a thread Almo! I'll try to only post newer images after this one.

    Canon 30D, Canon 300mm f/4L IS USM, and 1.4XTC (I think).

Here's a few of mine from last year. All the bird photos were taken with my Sigma 170-500mm lens. The flower was shot with the Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 USM Macro.

Here are a couple of mine, shot with that Sony A100 and the 135mm STF lens (I bought this lens just for shots with smooth bokeh, it is pretty special).

    Cheers all!

Dude, that last shot is amazing. The bokeh that lens produces is very fine indeed. It's almost like a blurry impressionistic painting. That must be one sweet piece of glass.

    Thanks for sharing!

    Re: The Bokeh Challenge Thread

    Thanks John

The STF is unique, nothing comes close to what it does based on its patented design that KM owned (now Sony owns). It has two aperatures, and what they call an apodization filter, that controls how the bokeh looks. It is a very sharp lens, but does suffer from some CA from time to time, but is is clean CA at least. It's like taking a 2.8 prime then having the ability to fine tune how your bokeh looks basically. At first I used it all the time but im finding that im using it less now, and wondering if im going to keep it in the long run. I probably will but I could fetch about 1200 for it and get other lenses if I wanted too. Its one of those lenses that is hard to keep and hard to let go at the same time .

Thanks for commenting John, great thread here and nice talking to you again,
