    Bubble Girl

I am working on a portrait project for my daughter. This is the basic design. Comments and critiques welcomed. Suggestions cheerfully explored but leave any editing to me. Thanks!

P.S. I just noticed the rough cut outs around her pony tails and plan to correct that when I re-shoot the portrait. I am specifically looking for critique on the concept.

I love the concept and the colours you've chosen are lovely but not sure that your daughters complexion and outfit are right.

Hey what do I know about outfits, I'm a man.

Thanks for taking the time to comment Roger,
I plan to re-shoot portraits of her and her sister this weekend. She's in her ballet outfit and ultimately I plan to fill all the bubbles with different dance poses swirling around a larger out of the bubble final pose for each girl. This is what we scratched together last night before I had a chance to sleep on it. My daughter really likes the idea and thought it was hilarious when she first saw it!

It's very clever Cl. it seems to be a yoga pose. Keep this pose and add a few variations to other bubbles maybe.

    Fun and cool idea.

An idea to consider would be to make her look more like she is floating is to leave a bit more border around her inside the bubble and perhaps slightly rotate her so that she doesn't just look like she's just sitting on the bottom of the bubble.

You might even want to play with putting some slight softening around the knockout of her before combining the two to add to the effect.

Looks like this will be a good one when finished. Does she get a poster for her wall??

Have the lighting on the bubble come from the same direction as the light on the girl.

    Re: Bubble Girl

Thanks! Good food for thought everyone! Great response for a really rough draft.

Tom - You are correct she is doing a kind of yoga pose. [Lotus Position] At the time of this portrait I was setting up my lights and she hopped up on the table and began chanting, "Look beyond what you see." It's a line from one of her little movies. I was in stitches and barely managed to keep her going at it without laughing long enough to get this shot off. I will probably reduce the size of this pose and add it into the the background bubbles. My idea now is to have her head and hands in the frame catching and looking into a bubble. And yes, all the bubbles in the scene will have different poses inside.

CD - Thanks! You bet she gets a poster for her room. Her little sister will get her own variation as well. [Gotta keep it fair in my house.] When I re-shoot the portraits and then re-cut them I will probably use a 5 px feather for a softer edge as well as making sure her hair is worn down to keep it from looking all weird and sticky. I started out with her hovering more inside the bubble but then hit it with the Sphereize filter and it stretched her around a bit more than I had expected. I will look out for that in the final as well.

Chunk - Excellent point and just what I was thinking today as I was fiddling with it some more. I will make sure to keep my light source appropriately directed. Thanks!

    Re: Bubble Girl

    What the heck? Pretty neat!

I agree that she's a little too crowded in there and that her outfit doesn't match the design. But I'd toss the outfit before the design - since she's available and under your command, order her to a reshoot! Maybe a dark(er) colored shirt, perfectly symmetic lockes, and her arms extended slightly out to the sides so that she's 'touching' the sides of the bubble??

Nice placement of the bubbles btw. The one with her is placed nicely in the frame.

I don't know much, but I know what I like Cindy. I like the concept very much. Be sure to post the final version.
