Well, I'm hardly qualified to make an accurate assessment, but I'd like to see a little more saturation. To my eye, it seems a little flat, but I'll leave it to others to be better judges.

    Hmmm!

This needs a levels adjustment to bring back the colours and contrast, because the histogram is all the way over to the right.

I would then crop the photo so that you loose the house on the left and a little off the bottom to keep the proportions and add a rotation to line up the verticals of the Pub.

I like the fact that you got down low to capture this lovely situation. Hope the knee wasn't badly grazed - thats the impression I get.

Intentional tilted horizons are already cliche. I like the image and I don't mind that it is flat (it's nice to see something with subtle colors once in a while). The only other thing that bothers me about the image is the roofs of the buildings being cut off (just a nitpick).

The subject is too centered for my taste. I rather have a tilted rock line horizon than see the building all leaning. Lots of potnetial. I'm fine with how the colors are.

    Re: Beach Girl (not dirty!)

I LOVE the way you got low and included the foreground like this. It is a tad bit centered. Actually the girl and dog seem to be a separate pic within a pic. The tilt looks unintentional to me, like you layed the camera down on the uneven sand (pebbles). (It takes someone who makes these mistakes to spot one, I think..) You can fix with PS or whatever other dig manipulation software you have. I like the background. The shot is somewhat 'earthy' in color... try adding a little blue or something. Otherwise, very creative shot!

I really like this picture the only thing I would do is crop the out of focus foreground leaving the girl and the dog a little less centered. Nice picture well done.

I think its a great picture, I like the colours, I know they look pastel, but how I am to know thats not the effect your looking for? It would be better straightened up (I did this below, hope you dont mind, though I lost alot of quality). I think for a 15 yr old, you got a good eye, a good imagination and could go along way!

Mcphisto - Decent crop, still a bit centered.

Btw if you don't want to lose quality when you rotate you just enable anti-aliasing. Otherwise, it will pixelate.

    Re: Beach Girl (not dirty!)

Thanks, I used Picasa to rotate it quickly, I didnt actually crop it myself. I would use ACDSee to rotate things normally. Would that prog or CS2 cause pixalation too?

I think PS automatically anti-aliases. I mostly use Corel PhotoPaint and it only does so if you check the box. For the longest time I didn't know what I was doing wrong till I figured that one out.

    Re: Beach Girl (not dirty!)

I really like this image. And I think the suggestions so far have been spot on. A rotation to the right to eliminate the tilt in the buildings as well as a crop off the left side to eliminate the one building in the bkgnd and to move the girl off center. The only tihng I would add is when you make the crop also clone out the antennae on the flat roof above her head and to the left of her. Here is my take of how it should look crop wise.

Here is also my take with a levels and curve adjustment. Really brings out the colours in the forground and makes the subject "pop" a lot more than the original. I also cloned out the antennae. Hope this helps.

It needs a bit more rotation than I gave it but this was a 2 minute quick fix to give you an idea of what I would've done with it. You have a good eye, keep up the good work.

    Re: Beach Girl (not dirty!)

The critique seems a bit harsh to me. There is something good here. It has an intereresting perspective and a whimsical humanity to it. I like it lots. The technical improvements sterilize it a bit IMHO. I prefer the original.

    Re: Beach Girl (not dirty!)

I like the original version best. It has a richness about it that comes from it's subtle tones and colors. I would suggest cropping a bit off the bottom and some off the left side. I would have liked to see the girls face a bit or at least have her looking up toward the beach. Good work

    Re: Beach Girl (not dirty!)

I too like the original colors best; what takes away from me are the blurred rocks
at the bottom, I would crop that out. McPhisto did a good job with straightening it up
either way works for me but the saturated colors I felt took away the fresh feel of the
original. I like the dog and the fact that the girl is not looking at the camera too. Imo,
the background really works well for this shot. There's a lot going on in this photo that works. Good job. NJ

The Original I like, but I would of opened up the lens to get less DOF, or move closer to the subject to get a even more out of focus background.
