    Florida scrub jay

I went to a nature walk today. I had been hearing about it from a few locals who grew up around here. Its a protected area for the Florida scrub jay. Here they have lost their fear of man and get really close. Very curious bird.

I love that second image, great pose! I'm not sure why, but I really like seeing banded birds... maybe it's knowing they have been studied and are doing good.

    Re: Florida scrub jay

Hey all thanks for the nice comments!!
Knight, I'm not sure about the banding specifically, but I do know that the scrub jay is a federally threatened species. The state keeps a pretty good eye on their numbers.

Heres a good site about them and the Lyonia Preserve, where these were taken.

Nice job, big b. Such a beautiful species.

I think you are fortunate that, for a threatened species, this area isn't closed off. Hopefully their numbers will rebound for all to enjoy soon.
