    Getting closer!

Every morning as soon as i get up i go into the kitchen put the camera on the work top near the backdoor as sometimes theres something worth shooting, i open the backdoor to give the feathered residents their tit bits (pieces of pastry) whilst the dogs mooch around, nothing changed this morning apart from when i opened the backdoor and i thought i was in Jurassic Park! this Heron was flying so low down the garden heading straight for me, i grabed the camera had'nt got time to check settings and fired away, at the last second it turned and went over the garage out of sight, it really took my breath away, i could see its eyes so closely, dont know why it was flying so low, although we do have them coming across the houses on their way back and forth to the river.

Taken with 100-400L with 1.4TC (which id left on from the day before)
The head shot is cropped, the other isnt, as i couldnt get it all in the frame.

Wow Bev, great catch! That is very sharp for a spare of the moment in-flight shot, well done!

Thanks Knight, Copy and big baldo for kind comments, as you stated baldo, one off chance, probably never happen again, especially when i think the poor bird looked like he thought i was really going to shoot him!

Wow! Excellent job capitalizing on a rare and fleeting moment! Your encounter sounds quite similar to that one time when a hawk flew at me and circled just above me.

I believe that all those months/years of practicing good form/technique really comes through in moments like these. Its amazing how automatic the motions can become. I think I'd be a bad cop - I shoot first and ask questions later

    Nice job!

Thanks Loupey, moments like this certainly get the adrenaline pumping, i gritted my teeth in anticipation when i checked to see if they had come out ok, i have to admit i had a little smile on my face when the first one came up!

Nice, you always amaze me with the flight shots. I can barely get the eye sharp when they're sitting still.

Keep working at it, eventually you'll be on top of them.
