    Challenging Subject done Easy

After shooting the open-field images posted in my other thread, I figured I'd treat myself in between with some easy shots at the birdboxes this afternoon.

Focus was still manual but preset at the specific perch. Just a matter of waiting for them to land in the right spot. Easy as pie!

The wing position on the bird that's about to land in the fourth image is SWEET!

The last image is superb, they look like paintings, the colour on these birds is electrical.
    Excellent work.

    Re: Challenging Subject done Easy

Copy, thanks! The 4th and 5th images here aren't from the same pass. Here is the image taken immediately after the 4th image in the first post. Cropped to show detail. Similar to the 5th, but different.

Bev, I am facinated by these guys! Their coloration, feathers, wing shape, and attitude all scream "Ferrari". Thanks for looking!

Knight, yes exactly - but that's exactly half the trick. You all know my obsession with no/minimal crops, so timing is everything because a bird rocketing into the viewfinder is too late. So the other half of the trick is to shoot with both eyes open so that you can see the bird approaching with the left eye and release the shutter just as the bird approaches the frame edge.

Amber - thanks for the kind words. I'm glad I did them justice.

Big B - thanks for the nice words! The lighting/direction/background color/subject color all came together nicely I think. Although I don't check my LCD too often while actively shooting, I could tell that the details would come through well in PP from this scene.

Amber - I like that one too. If only the wing of the other wasn't directly behind his open beak. 95% there Thanks!

The blue sky shots are all between 3 and 4pm.

First two images of the original post are with the 300mm + 2x TC at ISO 400, f/11, 1/1000s.

The rest are with the 300mm alone at ISO 400 (except the one with 3 birds which is ISO 320), f/8, 1/1500s.
