I think this is a quite interesting 'street photo'. Sure the lighting is harsh but probably real and I wish the guitarists face wasn't partially shadowed but street photography doesn't allow much for those adjustments.
Why is the gal standing alone off to the left? What are the women talking about? Why does the one have her hand in her purse? What is the guitarist playing and is he any good? Where are they going? Where did they come from?
All these questions come to my mind when I look at this image and that's why I find it fascinating. Good catch.
I also think that I would crop out most of the left side and some from the top. I think that the picture would be better if the two ladies weren't centered. I also think this would be a good B&W.

I am like Barney Fife, I have a gun but Andy makes me keep the bullet in my pocket..
It seems to me like you have 2 images in one here... 1: the girl on the left side in the shadows and 2: the old ladies and the guitar player. I think I would actually like the guitar player better if his face wasn't so brightened in Photoshop, it's distracting my eye a bit. But other than that I think that the idea behind this is a great one!
Don - The pole/board in the center sure appears to split the image into two equal parts. I agree that somehow the composition just doesn't work here.. the girl on the left seems barely in the shot and the guitarist is clipped off. The lighting is pretty harsh.
As far as expressions, I think they're good. When it's this cold outside and you're sitting there waiting for the bus, well, it's character building. It's also reality. We don't get cold like this down here so this one stirs old memories that I haven't visited in 10 or more yrs..
