    Abandoned Salton Hotel

One of the ugliest looking abandoned buildings I've found in the west, this is what happens when R.E. developers predict incorrectly, as the Salton Sea was thought to be the next Palm Springs. This is the only hotel that I've found out there. Seems that the best pix of it is yet to be taken... just couldn't seem to find the 'right' angle that I know is there. :mad2:

    Comments appreciated!!!

I love graffiti so you know I like these. I feel #1 and #3 would have been better with a better sky. #4 seems to have a slight tilt to it and I might would clone out the paper plate. But nice angles on them all.

Read a bit about the Salton Sea. Not sure how all those fresh water fish survive in such a salty body of water,(saltier than Pacific Ocean).
I can see what you are after and agree you haven't found that angle yet. Perhaps if you are after the failute of man a wider view showing the setting it is in ?

Thks Greg didnt even notice that tilt. I DID have to straighten several of them in software ... I dont know why I got so many tilted. I think it had something to do with the lens and it's inherent distortion... tricky.

Frog, appreciate your feedback. The pic is sitting there, waiting to be taken...... I DID do a few panoramic shots that I have yet to try to connect (my previous expts with that have all been failures, but I'm ready to try again !!!) but I dont really expect the pano to be a pulizer prize.. more an expt. We'll see. I want to get back to the SS with a model in April, so perhaps I'll hit this place again.

The graffiti one is my favorite of the bunch. Maybe we should start a graffiti thred. It looks like the lake is still there. Seems odd that no one would build up around it.

Not if you were there (!) It's a ways from the coast and the sea (lake) smells of dead fish in the worst of times, and like a salt bath in the best. There has been talk of replenishing it with fresh water, but no one knows where the extra water will come from. They have also talked about digging a canal to the Sea of Cortez, in Mexico, about 100+ miles away. But nada so far. Plus, that wouldn't solve the farming nutrient runoff problem and fish dies.

A graffiti thread sounds good! Maybe the viewfinder though?
