Teddy Bears

Just getting silly with a photogenic friend here. A few different shots of the same scene.. they were all shot with a Mamiya 645 on Kodak PXP b&w film. I have mixed feelings on them, so C&C welcome.

Yeah, you might hit me on the composition, but it was a very tight room with a lot of clutter. Was pretty much the best I could do... :incazzato:

I like the light in all of them, nice contrast and tones as well.

However, the composition, like you said, isn't working very well. The cutting off of the body parts in these particular shots doesn't work. You almost got it in the first in third one, and the fourth, if cropped a little more(see the attachment) works better.

In situations where space is an issue, depending on the subject and what you want to portray, getting closer(or zooming) can be the way to go. In these shots it seems, for the most part, her face, the bears, and her hands are what's important. Not necessarily the bottom part of her body.

I've attached a picture that I cropped somewhat quickly for just a small example of what I'm talking about. Now that I look at the crop, it doesn't dramatise it too much, I hope you kind of get what I'm saying.

F-15 Flyer - Yes, I see what you mean. I was a little disappointed with the results because of the clipping. We threw a black sheet over her bed and since I was using a tripod and fixed-focus lens I couldn't really move in closer. But I think I can do a few crops, as the 645 film has a lot of resolution (the black and white grain is a bit of an issue... luckily my scanner has a grain elimination setting that helps).

I think your crop is good but I can also see that you ran into the same issue I did: where do you crop here? I didnt want to clip off her arm. Well, maybe it's time to cut bait on these and do some different ones..
