    Joy To The World

    Dear All
I want to love this image more than I am allowing myself to. Does the loss of an elbow and feet hurt this. I regret that I failed to include them but can I get away with it?
    Thanks to all

Oh Fudge Tom! I am right with you on this one sir. I want to love it too, I really do. The kids expressions are so great, the colors are bold, I could forgive the feet but the elbow I just might lose some sleep over. I know it totally defeats the purpose of the scene but for suggestions sake perhaps a wicked tight crop of just there heads and upper torsos and the tallest boys arms since they're grouped so closely together? It's a head shaker that's for sure.

Tom,,,wonderful image...Great expressions on the kids, colours are strong and what I really like about this image you have shown some of the environment..Shooting these young guys at their level strengthens this image and their expressions are priceless..Often these situations happen so quickly and you have to get what you can out of it..Framing especially can be less than perfect and messy backgrounds are common...I wouldn't slap myself too much for omitting elbows or feet but would have improved the image greatly if they were included..

Ok Tom,,I'll fess up...I have a weakness for this type of photography..

    Tom,

Great shot for certain and sure, elbow and feet would have been perfect, but I think you can crop tighter to eliminate the feet and go with what you have. Still a great moment you have here.

Oh wow...those are some gorgeous colors. I think the elbow doesn't bother me as much as the lack of some more sky. I think if it were opened up a bit more on the left and on top, it would give it an extra punch. Especially if there were more white clouds above what we already see. Was there more of that, that you cropped out?

    Thanks so much everyone.
Yes the arms and the legs; but I'm delighted the majority view is that there is enough elsewhere to carry the day so to speak.
I see where you are coming from with a tighter crop which would solve some of the problems but I would be worried that such a crop would loose the 'height' aspect.
This indeed is the total result from the camera with a bit of USM and curves thrown in.

I really like this shot Tom. I added it to my favorites last night. The elbow and feet don't bother me at all. The mood, and expressions in this photo are great, along with the colors. Technically it may not be perfect, but since when is art about following rules?

Tom, as others already stated so well here you have captured a strong image in the faces, poses and impact overall of the subjects. I do think the cut off parts hurt the image, although one can still enjoy what we have here to view. The elbow I could move past but the feet is the hard one to swallow.. Still, a highly enjoyable photo to look at. You seem to have a great way with people, whereas I seem to make people uncomfortable around me and thus do not feel I could get these type shots as you do.

    Thanks Gary
I am very dissappointed that I did not get this right in the viewfinder. Perhaps I was trying to fill the frame too accuratrely. I will stand back a little more in future and let things breathe a little.
It's great though when people enjoy being photographed.

I like the expressions and the colors, the framing is a small mistake.
