A little life on the wild side

Hi all ... a couple of images of native British wild life. The first is a red fox, probably my favourite animal to photograph (although it does present it's problems). The second is a red deer.

As always, any comments are appreciated.

i like your "native wildlife" comment.. i cant say i have seen such examples of such "wildlife".. and it hasnt been for want of looking..

where and how were those taken out of curiosity.. ???

Thanks guys for the kind words. Both images were taken at the British Wildlife Centre which is south of London and which specialises in breeding native species for release into the wild. It isn't a zoo though and the animals are kept in a pretty natural habitat. I was very fortunate with the fox. It was an unseasonably sunny day yesterday and this little vixen was just enjoying the sunshine - usually the foxes are in their earths and if you see them at all it is fleetingly. Both pics were taken with pretty well the long end of an 80-320 lens (480mm 35mm equivalent).

not really in the "wild" then.. u did have me wondering quite what i have been doing wrong.. he he he

especially with the stag.. these things exist in scotland in large numbers but are usually not seen and never that close.. just in case anyone that doent live in the UK gets the wrong idea..

trog .. there are a number of places around here where deer live wild. The best known is Richmond Park which has large herds of both red and roe deer living in the several hundred acres of the park. They are certainly not tame deer and you have to "stalk" them with your camera. But, at least, you know where you can find them if you have the patience and don't mind getting muddy feet

never been south looking for deer didache..the only one i have been close to is this one.. isle of lewis last summer..



we stopped to watch a pair crossing the road a way in front of us.. the male leaped over the wire fence.. his mate couldnt manage it and panicked.. it heard a car coming a quarter mile away ran at an angle back to the forest.. the car hit it and skippered it along the road.. it ended up right at my feet..

they are talkng about a deer cull in scotland because of them running onto some major roads and causing accidents.. over 2700 miles we saw two.. that was one of them.. a sad story..

ps.. this is as close as i normally get to em.. 450mm nearly a month back at glenshee near braemar..
