2007 PMA Tradeshow Discussion
The annual PMA tradeshow will be in Las Vegas from March 7th to March 12th. SmartWombat, Walterick, and I will be there to check out all the new digital cameras, photo software, lenses - and yes - even film! Let us know what you want to see and we'll do our best to get photos and collect details for you. Make your requests here and we'll be your eyes at the show.

Re: 2007 PMA Tradeshow Discussion
It's down to about a week till the show now. I don't think all of the new product announcements have been made. I'll definitely be seeing all the obvious stuff, like the new Canon EOS 1D Mark III and new compacts from Sony, Nikon, Panasonic, Olympus, Casio, etc. If there are cameras, lenses, software, or other things you want us to check on and get pictures of for you, this is the place to ask. We'll be making a list from this page and going out on the show floor to get what you want. So make sure to let us know if you have any questions or requests.

Re: 2007 PMA Tradeshow Discussion
Any rangefinder stuff would be great!
Voigtlander should be debuting the R4A, which is the first RF camera with framing lines for 25 and 21mm lenes.
Thanks!

Re: 2007 PMA Tradeshow Discussion
What Brian said, plus any kind of compact digital with good high ISO capabilities would be interesting to hear about...especially if it's an affordable digital rangefinder.

Re: 2007 PMA Tradeshow Discussion
I'm still keeping my fingers crossed for a 30D replacement. I would also be interested in seeing if there is anything geared for wildlife photos. Such as window mounts for long lenses, and light weight tripods. New portable storage for backing up files in the field too.

Re: 2007 PMA Tradeshow Discussion
Any details on the 30D replacement which I though would be announced about now please.
I was looking forward to going and buying it at the end of this month. You are free to pass my name on as a Beta tester if they need one

Re: 2007 PMA Tradeshow Discussion
I am curious to any of the new lenses coming from Pentax/Samsung. Also, to what the new compacts from Panasonic will be like, and if they have improved upon their alreayd good image stabilization.

Canon
Eric-
Sorry, it looks like that's not going to happen at this PMA. The EOS-1D Mark III is the only digital SLR that Canon is introducing at this show. So we'll have to wait until later in the year for the expected "40D."

They're not saying when or which. But one new body will be available before the end of the year. That's all they've committed to.

We had a meeting with Panasonic and have stuff to post. But to answer your question about Panasonic's O.I.S. image stabilization, they didn't say anything about any improvements. But they did claim that they're system is the most technically advanced. And my experience with the Pansonic Lumix compact cameras would seem to back that up. I'm very curious about the Leica Four Thirds zoom lens with Panasonic's O.I.S. system built in.

Re: 2007 PMA Tradeshow Discussion
Is there any more info on the Sigma DP1 rangefinder-ish digital, how about some photo examples from it? Can you play with one and take some pics?

New Samsung / Schneider Lenses
Here are some Schneider lenses for the Samsung digital SLRs. I think these are all new lenses. I played with the 35mm f/2.0 on the GX10 and it's really, really nice. It's very bright and contrasty - even through the camera's viewfinder.

We did get to handle it, but no photos. I can't remember why, but for some reason they said it wasn't ready. We did get to take pictures with the SD14, though. They actually became available the day before the show opened. It shoots JPEGs now so we didn't have to have the Sigma RAW software. The photos looked good.
Because I think the Sigma DP1 is one of the more significant introductions this year, I made my own blog post about it (more photos, too!):

Re: 2007 PMA Tradeshow Discussion
So nothing from Voigtlander?
The R4A/M is supposed to be available in April.
Good coverage as always!
Maybe one day I'll get a chance to go one day...

Brian-
I looked through the show guide and couldn't find Voigtlander listed anywhere. I couldn't think of who distributes them either. I don't think they were there, but I could be wrong. I asked Rick to look and he couldn't find them either. Sorry about that.

Sometimes they are referred as Cosina-Voigtlander.
No Worries! I appreciate you thinking about it.
