    Minolta 3500xi Flash Unit

Does anyone know if the above flash is compatible with the A100?
    Thanks!

No, it's not compatible with digital cameras.

Cool Re: Minolta 3500xi Flash Unit

Hi. I'm new to the DSLR World & this forum but I bought a Maxxum 3500xi flash on ebay and although I haven't tried the wireless part yet, it seems to work on the A100 fine. At least I think it does. Took outdoor night shots and they seemed to come out fine. Indoors I had to bounce towards the ceiling as the flash was too harsh direct on.

Am I missing something? I understand that it won't work fully with the ADI capable lenses.

I hope I don't sound too stupid. I'll catch on quick. I had an Olympus C-8080 prosumer and was getting frustrated with blurry images about 15% of the time. Usually the ones I wanted to keep.

The 3500xi isn't compatible with the flash metering in digital cameras. It always fires at full power.

Yep it will fire full power only. TTL, ADI, and wireless functions will not work. I'm not familiar with that unit, but the only way to change output is if it can be set manually.

    Hello!
Your experience is actually close to my problem.
Have the same flash and like to trigger it by a light sensitive head. This head has a old fasion jack for the input cable - one wire + shield. How to interface it to the hot shoe of the flash?
    Thanks in advance,

    Re: Minolta 3500xi Flash Unit

Hello everyone. I am new to the forum, just joined today.

I have a 3500xi flash. I set up the wireless using my maxxum 530 body, then it triggers with whatever camera flash I am using. You have a hit or miss deal here, some experimentation and bracketing are in order. At least digital does not use up a lot of film and processing .

The hard part is supporting the 3500 on a tripod. I thought I saw some adapters for tripod screw to the Minolta hotshoe configuration, but can't find them.

    Good luck.
