    Apples & Pears

I took this a month or so ago, and I'm still waffling over it, whether I like it or not.

Mmm...McIntosh. I can never find those here.

I like this shot. It's an interesting subject. When I shoot something like this, I never know whether I should shoot it at a slight angle, like you did, or if I should shoot it straight on. I think you did well. It looks like it could use a little more exposure, but that could be my monitor.

    The subject is interesting.

I would prefer a shot head on so it is square. The current angle doens't add to the shot.

Some close up shots of the various fruit probably would have been nice to see.

    Re: Apples & Pears

Hi Emily - Well, the subject seems to be worthy enough for a shot or two. But the composition and lighting don't do a lot for me. I'm not sure what angle would have been better, but the negative space around the subject isn't all that helpful. The fruit all seems dark and w/o much detail. Funny, but I do like the nails at the top. I think I would have recomposed to have the box lower and let the nails play a more prominent part in the photo.

Btw, dont know if you know it, but in Germany they dont say "Apples and oranges" like we do in the US to imply there's no relation between two objects, but "Apples and Pears."

    Re: Apples & Pears

GB, Manacsa & photophorous...thanks for your thoughts on this!

photo: If I'm remembering correctly (and this would apply to manacsa's crit too), there was something hindering me from a head on shot of this. I'm not sure how I feel about the angle either.
Manacsa: Thanks for the comments on this...I actually didn't get any of the individual apples & pears...this was something I spotted and liked...I got more pumpkins and other squash in indiv. pics...hehe.
GB: I liked the nails too...they seemed to go along with the tacked-on notes...lol. The darkness factor is one of the things I just don't like about posting some of my shots...a lot of my shots get that feedback, but on my screen they don't look too dark, and if I fiddle with the colors and whatnot, then it looks funny to me, you know? :|

Thanks guys for the feedback on this...I appreciate it, especially the thoughts re: the angle.

P.S. GB...I didn't know that about "Apples and Pears" in Germany...that's a cool little fact!
