QMemory 1GB Compact Flash Card Problem

First of all, I want to say hello to everyone, this is my first post to the forum and wasn't quite sure where to post it. I bought 4 new QMemory 150x 1GB Compact Flash cards to take on a trip with me and decided to test them before I go. I shoot with a Nikon D100 camera and formatted each card. Not one of them will save the image to the card. I know I must be doing something wrong and read the D100 manual but can not figure it out. It isn't a camera malfunction because my old compact flash cards work fine. Anyone have an idea what I am doing wrong? I can't believe all these new cards are inferior products. Appreciate your feedback. Thank you.

Are you formatting in the camera or via PC?

IT is possible that these cards just won't work right. Nikon has a list of approved CF cards that goes out with each camera, and I don't think QMemory has ever been on a single one. They may well have an inferior product.

Sounds like the cards aren't compatable with your camera. For camera use I'd stay with Kingston (recommended by Canon) Lexar or San Disk cards. Look around and you can find some really good deals on the above CF cards. If not, check out Best Buy, CompUSA, or Roberts Distributors in Indianapolis (online) as they all tend to have good prices on these CF cards and SD cards as well.

Off brand CF cards just don't always work right, the cards you have may work in MP# devices and so on, but not always in cameras.

Another thing, can the D100 handle the 150X speed? It may only be able to write to 133 cards.

Thanks for the reply and advice. I think these cards will not work with the D100. I sent a message to Nikon but have not received a response. How can I find out what is the fastest speed they can use? I want to buy some more cards but want to make sure they work this time. Really appreciate the advice!

Well since no one has answerd the speed question try this. Call Roberts Distributors today at : 800-726-5544 and ask for Matt, then ask him, he should know the answer. i don't have a clue what the Nikon speeds are, I don't know what my two 1D's take speed wise, just that every speed I have used works, including the latest Extreme series cards.

One thing though, as mentioned never ever format your cards in the computer, this can cause them not to work in your camera! As for your present cards, return them ASAP as most items like that you hve very limited return time on.

Also, one more thing I have to say is that most of the cards claiming 150x etc. etc. are full of it. The brands I'd trust for speed ratings are lexar, sandisk, and Kingston.

How can I find out what is the fastest speed they can use?

I have a Fuji S2 which is about the same age, and I don't know if there is an upper limit with the speed of the card. I don't think it can handle any more than a 2GB card size, but I've used 24x thru 133x with no problems in my camera. All of my cards are Lexar other than one SanDisk and I've never had a problem with them.
