    South Dakota Panorama

I know this is a pretty static composition but I was happy that the stitching went well. I did this one mainly for sewing practice.

    Comments and critiques welcome.

P.S. I've kept it large for detail's sake, sorry if this makes anyone grumpy.

Darn it girl this is big (Best American Accent

I like it a lot but bothered by not being able to see it all in one go.

You have a couple of smudges (possibly lens dirt, their in a line) which are repeated through the photo.

Colour is good and so is composition.

I like the simple subject as a panorama and feel it looks fine. i agree with Roger about the various smudges evident in the sky area.

    Re: South Dakota Panorama

I figured I would post a small representative here. I thought I'd gotten all the smudges out, should have done the spotting before I stitched the images. They were, however, grey smudges in grey clouds. Roger, you have eyes like a hawk! :skep: You too Gary! Thanks for the kind words about the scene.

Thanks Don! I had to drive through the middle of those clouds after I got back in the car from taking these. It got pretty black in there. Luckily our stuff was well wrapped on the roof and everything stayed dry. And we were treated to a gorgeous sunset on the other side!

Gee Whiz girl. I love it. I gotta thing for hay fields, but I do see some strange things going on in the sky. I am sure with your PS skills you can fix them. How did you stitch it together?

Cl; you can knit a jumper for me anytime because I cannot see any traces of seams at all.
Pity there wasn't an auld tractor or machine lying about the fields.
I would suggest that the repeated smudges may be due to dust/marks on the sensor. Might be worth checking.
    I think it's a great pano.

    Re: South Dakota Panorama

You missed the real impact by not taking a few more frames and have the fence recede on either side, other than that it's a good panorama. Which program are you using? I use Smoky Mountain's Panorama Factory myself.

    Re: South Dakota Panorama

Greg - Thanks very much. Yes the smudge is bit of sensor fluff. I cleaned up on the big one but haven't re-uploaded it. I used the Panorama program that came with PS Elements. The program missed the alignment in several places so I had to go in and adjust everything by hand, then go back and clone out the places where the overlaps didn't mesh.

Tom - I am glad you like it. The big one (52 MB) has detail you can see well off into the horizon at 100%. I wish there had been a implement of interest beyond the haystacks as well, but that's the way it goes when you're just passing through. [sigh] I could have waited around all day but the family was restless to get out of the car.

Trog - There may be several reasons for the lack of sharpness you are seeing. One is a slight misalignment among the grass in he foreground. Two it has been resized significantly so compression may have something to do with it as well.

Freygr - It would have been great to extend the fence line but the highway is immediately on the left, I went as far as I could. In need more time with these types of scenes than I leave for myself. I used Photoshops stitching program. Thanks for the tip I'll check out the Smoky Mountain one.

At the risk of being accused of being sexist, (on top of everything else ), that is a good sewing job. I only noticed one errant pixel that went 'astray' toward the bottom of the sky but that of course could be due to some other patch work that you did.

Panoramas are best if you can get some strong verticals in them to make them less flat in look, but of course that makes them harder to stitch together.

    Re: South Dakota Panorama

Thanks Ronnoco! Is it the one just over the mountains on the right in the far distance? That's where I noticed some blips in the large scroll through. A quick touch up should take care of it. I agree with you about the use of verticals, if there had been anything prominent I'd have been thankful for it, the grass just seemed to go on and on.

    Good stitching job, CL...

    Success.

But a big bunch of nothing shot

I would bump up the contrast to add some intensity to the photo. And where are some grazing animals when ya need 'em?

HA! No doubt. I thought this was the place 'where the deer and the antelope play.' I would have even settled for a cow, but I guess live stock would ruin the hay field.
