    Attwater

I took the long way to work this morning and watched the sun rise (or at least what little of a sunrise I could see behind all the storm clouds) over Attwater Prairie Chicken NWR. I only had time for a 30 minute stop but I did manage to see some interesting wildlife.

I was greeted by this young Red-tailed Hawk on my way in. I think he makes a nice gate keeper!

Other highlights were a large covey of Northern Bobwhite which I accidentally flushed before spotting them and a handful of curious sparrows including this Grasshopper Sparrow and LeConte’s Sparrow.

    Technical details are as follows:

All pictures taken using a Canon Rebel XTi and Sigma 500mm f/4.5 EX HSM lens

    Red-tailed Hawk: ISO 800, f/4.5, 1/13 sec
    Grasshopper Sparrow: ISO 800, f/4.5, 1/100 sec
    LeConte’s Sparrow: ISO 800, f/4.5, 1/200 sec
