    Winter Project

Thought it might be interesting to hear some different ideas on what image(s) you are planning to capture this winter.

Since winter isn't in full swing yet (at least in Ohio), I figure if we can't be actively shooting winter shots, the next best thing would be planning the winter shots.

So what is in your mind's eye? Care to voice it? If you succeed, will you share it?

So I'll start with some new images I hope to capture:
    1) a squirrel covered with snow just after digging up some food
    2) a cardinal amidst heavily snow covered branches
    3) a lone tree/plant in a windswept snow field
    4) closeups of frost on still green vegetation
    5) closeups of ice on a stream as it melts
    6) well defined tracks in freshly fallen snow

Those are on my list. Now if it will only snow

    What are you planning?

Well i can probably count snow scenes well and truly out, last proper snow we had was years ago! but heavy frosty mornings do happen so hopefully some thing will come from that.

I have now found a place where the gold crests are at, so a shot of one of those would be great, and i will be going back to my lake to get more captures of the Kingfisher.

I'm hoping to get some deer in the snow photos, as well as other critters in the snow. Of course we have to get some snow first. I have a brand new pair of snowshoes that I can't wait to try out. I'm also going to be looking for some owls, and I would love to find a piliated woodpecker too. I would also love to find some river otters in the wild.

Deer hunting season is finally over so it should be save to get back out in the woods. I just wish we has some snow...

It's not going to be all cold weather stuff for me tho. I'm going to Jamaica for a week, and I would also like to visit the Shedd Aquarium in Chicago sometime this winter.

I would love to get an image of a red fox in the snow. I'm waiting until it gets really cold here to visit a waterfall which isn't too far away.

Thanks for replying, S-D, Bev, Michael, and Copy. Please post an image later to this thread as you make your goals a reality

S-D: I may give up on such an illusive catch myself

Michael: when are you and Amy leaving for Jamaica? From cold, snowy WI to sunny Jamaica! What a variety of clothes to pack Perhaps better to have someone drop you off at the airport so you can dash in wearing shorts and flip-flops

    Hey Loupey,

I wish it was cold and snowy here in WI... It was in the 40's and foggy yesterday. It got pretty cold for about 4 days last week, but that was it. We will be leaving for our trip in a few weeks and if the weather stays the same here, it might just be colder in Jamaica...

    Re: Winter Project

The remnants of the ice storm and several inches we had last week are now mud! It is 54 degrees at noon! So, when there's more snow, I am tracking a herd of deer. Well not tracking that hard, just waiting for the best lighting when they wander out of the woods every evening.

The other resolution, is keeping all the windows and doors clean so I can shoot through them and not have to spend forever cleaning up the images! There's this bunch of Jays that like the feeders but are skittish, very skittish. Lots of bright colorful partial bird shots from last year and one broken plant pot that I stepped on/kicked over trying to shoot through the aforementioned dirty window.

    I'll get 'em!

Meanwhile, here's one for Loupey from last year!

Michael: please drop us a post before you leave. I'm sure you'll come back with some great Jamaica shots that will make us envious. Oh, and the photos of the stuff outside the hotel might even interest us

Drg: that shot is AWESOME! Great details and textures. Makes me cold just looking at it too

    Re: Winter Project

I'd like to try getting some better captures of some of the common backyard birds I have such as cardinals, titmice, etc. and especially a junco since they're only around in the fall and winter.
Once in a while I see deer near my home so hopefully i'll get some shots of them too. I saw a buck and 3 doe a few weeks ago and got several shots of them. They're not near as good as some of the deer pics I've seen here but I got as close as I could since they were in the woods across the creek from where I was standing:
