    Watch your step

Here is another one from the old factory. I took this yesterday.
Gary, this is the only window shot that turned out. This old factory makes me think of your "from within" series, with all of it's busted windows and old doors. I took this with an old Canon QL-17 GIII rangefinder.

Great subject, with lots of possibilities. It is very difficult to try to capture the entire front as you attempted from your perspective. You did as best as anyone could do in trying to capture the whole thing this way. If it is the entire front that you wanted to show, a better bet would be to use a wider angle or step way back further to allow more space around and less distortion. With more space available you could even try straightening the lines out if desired. I think it might be easier to focus in on particuliar elements of this scene. The door, especially the one at the right with it's windows knocked out and the panes in an unusual pattern makes an interesting element to focus on by itself. Also the other door with just one oddly placed window is neat as well. I might frame each of those doors up seperately and wait for some warm lighting to hit them first to bring out all the texture and color that may be there to behold. Is there any way to get inside? With a tripod, you could have a whole days worth of shooting in there.

Thanks Gary for your insights. I intend on going back here soon and your ideas are very helpful. This factory is part of the same complex where I work. There are many interesting subjects here. Valves, hydrants and doors. Most of the doors are chained but I am sure with a little effort one could get in. I have thought about getting in with a tripod. There are several levels and a maze of things inside. Also getting on the roof lines would be fairly easy as well. It's a pretty isoloted spot on Sundays with not much traffic. Maybe I'll get some more photos to post later....

I like the angle which makes the doors and windows appear to loom over the viewer.
