Great Lens: Minolta 70-210 F4 Beercan Lens

After reading one of the thread, I bought myself a Beercan 70-210 F4 lens. I must say, for $167 it's a great deal (Ebay). I shoot my friends playing Football from afar, and the performance of the lens is awesome. Here are a couple of pictures. Tell me what you think?

Yes, the beercan is absolutely wonderful. I really like the way the motion was captured in that first shot! Great job!

I think the price for these old Minolta lenses are going up in price. I guess people don't want to spend tons of money on the new stuff eh.

You got that right. I think Sony is asking too much for their lenses. I hope it's due to a low supply/high demand issue and that it will improve in the future. I have picked up two lenses since I bought the alpha and both are Minolta/Konica-Minolta lenses and not Sony. The 70-210 f/4 and the 28-75 f/2.8. Besides, the current Sony lenses are all pretty much just rebadged Konica-Minolta lenses anyway.

Yeah, I talked to one of the Ritz guys at the store and says that it's very difficult to get some of the Sony lenses because they are back ordered till God knows when. I guess a lot of PPL are turning to other means - "Nature will find away".

I thought I had a good deal, but seems you had a better deal.

Considering it's prices now and it's nearest competition, you got a great price. I lucked up on mine, in fact, I got a 50mm 1.7 and a camera bag with the "beercan", all 3 were $100. Still my favorite 2 lenses. Small towns are like that though. I also picked up a Sigma 400mm APO for $175 about 2 months ago..

Enjoy, and I would love to see more of what someone with some talent can do with that thing.

Canuck, do you have any examples from the 28-75?

I sure do. Here's a couple of portraits. Also to note is that the KM 28-75 is a 'D' lens for ADI flash and it also has circular aperature blades.

Write A Review!

Please write a review for your lenses. I checked and this lens isn't listed in our new reviews database. But it is in the old one and you can still post a review. I'm going to see if I can't get it moved to the new reviews. It should be there. In the meantime, please post a review anyway. It will still be on the site, if a little buried.

Read and write Konica Minolta 70-210mm f/4 lens reviews >>

There's a contest right now, too. Post a review before the end of November and qualify to win a Canon G6 compact digital camera:

Alright you've convinced me. I've just finished writing reviews for the 70-210 f/4, 28-75 f/2.8, and the a100. Whew...
