    Tailed Orange Butterfly

Hope everyone isn't getting burned out on butterlies!!! Last year's massive planting is paying off with incredible blooming and a plethora of new insects!

A lot of winter bird species have returned, also. We still have multiple hummingbird species staying around, as well as the recently returned Anna's hummingbird. I'll try to get some of those in the coming days and weeks.

CJ's Desert Dwellers: Tailed Orange Butterfly Eurema proterpia

    Family: Pieridae

    Length: 35-44mm

This is a male Tailed Orange Butterfly Eurema proterpia. This species shows some good sexual dimorphism (differrent appearances for different sexes). It also varies in appearance by season!!!

Range: Typically South and Central America, Mexico, into southern/central Arizona, New Mexico and Texas.

Flight:July through January (if not too cold)

This is the 'dry season or winter' form sipping nectar from a Mexican Blue Sage Salvia chamaedryoides. He was on the small end of the size scale.

I agree, your images of butterflies are quite refreshing as I wake up to 30 degree mornings here. But, where are the bird images
