undecided

I took 2 hours to go out and photograph yesterday. I only took about 18 images but realized after getting home that I was disappointed in what I shot. I shouldn’t be surprised because I wasn’t after anything in specific. Having a focus is something I need because I struggle between all my eye sees and what I want to convey. I was about to delete all the images when I decided to work this a little. Still not sure. All thoughts welcome.

Regards,

Re: undecided

Be glad you didn't delete this one, it works.

I usually don't delete any shots that are ok but I don't like for at least a couple of days, you never know (or at least I don't) if something marginal works or not until you get a chance to reflect on it for a while.

About to go home a delete a whole lot of images-but maybe I should wait.....

Re: undecided

I think it's successful. The only thing I would change is the size of the leaf in the frame -- I would make it a little larger, reducing the neg. space.

Re: undecided

This one is growing on me. There is an abstract quality that is developed by the orange of the leaf in what is certainly water but the toning and light makes it appear to almost be floating on smoke.

That, is particularly expressive of the fall season.

Presentation and framing are well done. I would look long and hard at this before make any major changes.

Good work! Thanks for posting this photograph.

Thanks for the critique. I am attaching an image cropped by 10%. I'm not sure it made a difference. I have an image where I cropped out more but didn't like how it looked.

Good work! Thanks for posting this photograph.

Thanks for the critique. I'm glad I took some time with this and didn't delete it. I did make a small crop but think it could go either way.

All the input is helpful.

Re: undecided

It's a bit better like this. In my opinion. Ever consider doing one of those type mattings where the white border is on top of the image? Might look better here than the flat black matte since the image is black with some interesting things going on.

Re: undecided

WOW!
What an interesting composition!
This has some great contrast, with the orange against the black.
And the texture in the water from the leaf, add a lot to the the photograph.
I like the light and shadows too!
I am glad you kept this one too, you should explore this further.

Thanks Brian,

I appreciate the feedback and the idea. This wasn't how I was envisioning the end print but it's good to have a successful mistake. I need to be more patient in the process.

Phil

Re: undecided

This works for me. I like the hint of the textured bottom showing through.
Good work.

Re: undecided

WoW! What a well-deserved featured photo!

Echoing mtbbrian, the contrasts make this image so successful - contrasts in color, sharpness, and textures.

Just excellent! I like the first image btw.

I agree. Outstanding, and nothing more need be said. I just wanted to add my congratulations on a superb photograph. This is gallery quality. I can only hope to capture an image of this quality some day.
