    The Boys In The Band

The boys and girls in the band. Unfortunately one member of the band is half hidden at the rear but I failed to notice this at the time.
    Thoughts and critique welcome.

Re: The Boys In The Band

I love this it must have been a terrific concert.

However, a very very minor nit pic; there is a bit of colour imbalance especially in the white clothes. Perhaps a bit of correction here would bring out the rest of the colours.

Cool image! I bet it would look good as a B & W too.

Re: The Boys In The Band

It is a cool image... Everyone really looks like they're getting into everything. Somehow, the colors seem so right to me.

For improvement, I wish the front row guys' legs weren't clipped off like that. Not sure why, but it adds to an already (slight) feeling of claustrophobia in the shot. It might be that they're sititng and standing so close together, or that there is some overall busy-ness about the photo (due to background objects and *interesting* designs on the walls, etc) or that they're a bit too close to the edge of the frame?

As for the fellow getting cut out there, yeah.. I see it. But somehow, the shot is good as is because it seems real and not 'posed.' I guess I've never been a big fan of overally posed shots (probably because i can't do em! ).

Tom, what a great image. The group is one very interesting looking bunch. Framed very nicely, colors look good to me, and althought the rear band member is somewhat cut out, it is not ruining the shot. The more i look at it, the more I feel it is excellent. Could make a great holiday card or poster at that. good work

    Tom~

I love it! The subject, colors and tones in this image are reminiscent of a painting. I don't feel the hidden player detracts from the image as it gives you some interest beyond the initial viewing, although if you were hoping to represent everyone in the group fairly it is a draw back. I think the fellow in the sunglasses at the end is so surreal looking given the environment and tone already at work here that he takes this beyond a documentary type picture. Just a really neat piece! Thanks so much for sharing it. Put it behind some glass and stick a price tag on it!

    Well seen!

Re: The Boys In The Band

A big thank you to all for taking the time to reply.

Roger; I take your point but I feel "I've got away with it" here.

Jbaldocchi: Must admit that B/W never even entered my mind on this one. Thanks for the thought and I'll have a play.

GB; No doubt it is all a little tight. Had to be to an extent just to avoid other musicians elbows etc from butting in. No posing here at all. These old men just sat there motionless and played their instruments, no complicated lighting, making it fairly easy to get the shot.

Gary; An interesting lot to be sure. This is one of a few closeup studies I took of these wonderful characters. To see a stage full of the old men, with their great costumes and ancient instruments, made for a nice night in with the camera.

CL; The old man in the shades was first out on stage; helped by an assistant because he is blind. Yes, I feel whatever faults there are, they are overcome to an extent by the visual treat of colours.

The lighting, the exposure and the colors are, just right.

I agree with the others, what a great picture. I feel the guy cut off does take some away, but the guy in the shades makes up for it. Be sure the band gets a copy...

wow...this picture really is intriguing. i love how my eyes get sucked right to the guy with the sunglasses cuz they dont fit the scene. it deffinetly adds a badass character to the guy. i didnt even notice the cut off guy until i read everyone else's comments. i really like this shot.

I like the partially hidden member, adds character

All the expressions, the attire, the colors, a most excellent image.

The guy with the white beard and the sunglass guy are awesome looking, as is everyone else, but my eyes go to them.

Thanks to you all for you comments on the Band. This is just one section of the larger band.
