Coke Sign Series Reshoot

On the advise of some of you heavy weight pros, here is the reshoot. I had to take a bike with me for a prop. I used a different method to convert to black and white. I think that I like the color version better. What do you think???

Greg, Your shooting this again at a time of day when there is still some light in the sky has helped keep the sign from blowing out. I think the colored version does look better here, but it all depends on what you want from your series. The color version here does need a levels adjustment, though.

Thanks Gary, I do want the building to be a little darker than the sign. I want to clearly make it the subject. I have several exposures this time with variation of light. Thanks for all of your help. I did check your web site for the color to B&W conversion. I also have a book that covers the subject. I guess there will be a leaning curve with this on my part, and I will keep at it. I also have a version, were I went in and touched up the photo, painted the sign. I may play with this version some more.
The people of the town where this sign is, are wanting to restore the sign, but the gentelman that owns the building refuses to allow it. I don't know how much longer this sign will be as you see it. No one can date the sign either.

Greg, I am loving the second one. The tones look really good and there is a really cool cast on the sign. There apperas to be some noise from the scanner or grain in the film. I use Tri-X all the time so grain doesn't bother me, just thought I would point it out. The right hand side of the frame it looks like there is tree that needs to be cropped, because my eye tends to float over there. Nice job, andI'm still looking for other signs, but not having any luck. I think there is one in Cave Spring too.

Thanks Z, I took your advise and shot the sign from several positions, closer. They didn't really need critiqued so I didn't post them. I think the noise is from the coversion process. I guess maybe another reshot with tri-x. This is only a couple of blocks from my moms house. A reshoot is simple enough. This one was heavily PSed. " I GOT BLISTERS ON ME FINGERS". I have three camera bodies now so I think I am going to shot standard, slide and B&W. My job takes me to CS often, and my work partner knows the gentleman that helped Mr. Redden paint many of his signs. I think I will pick his head some....

I didn't crop the post because didn't want to lose the hydrant at the bottom. I guess I will PS some more...

Greg - They're Ok, but try a wide angle shot too. Then you can crop off the entra top and/or bottom and get the buildings on the side -- would really like the see them, if I remember the last shot correctly.

This one's tonal range seems better to me. But the Coca-Cola text is still a bit small in the frame. I tried a crop... Not sure if it works.... just an experiment. The wider angle would be another expt

Thanks GB, I do like your crop. I also have a wider shot, somewhwere, I think on my thumb drive. I'll try and find it. I think a couple of lamp post were a problem. I am going to have to figure out how to deal with blowing out lamp post........
