Buck Fever

Yesterday I deciced to visit the farm where I saw that nice buck last week. Within 5 minutes of getting settled into my spot, this buck walked right in front of me. I hadn't even had a chance to put my gloves on. It's kind of hard to tell on this smaller version, but there is shreaded tree bark on his brow tines from rubbing on trees to mark his territory.

When he wandered into the woods, I turned and saw another buck following the first one.

After that one made it's way into the woods, I moved to another area of the farm, so the wind would be in my face. That's where I found these lovely ladies.

On my way back home, I stopped off at the place where I saw the two nice bucks. What I saw when I got there, made me wish I would have just stayed there. There were at least 3 really nice bucks, 1 smaller one, and a bunch of does all in the field where I saw the first two. Here are a couple shots I managed to get.

If the weather is decent, I may just try this spot again tomorrow!

Re: Buck Fever

Wonderful outing. Makes me wish I knew more about this beautiful creature and it's habits. It's obvious that your knowledge of deer led to these outstanding images. Thanks for sharing your experience with us.

Re: Buck Fever

Thanks Paul and Larry. This spot it pretty incredible when it comes to it's deer heard. I went to a different spot where I have my treestand set up this morning. I had a couple small bucks, and a few doe come in very close to my stand, but it was too dark for photos. It's raining here now, so I don't know if I will be ventureing outside with my camera this afternoon. I'm crossing my fingers that the rain will stop soon!

These are all great captures and that sounds like you had a great day in the field to me.

Beautiful shots, Michael! Absolutely love the group Does shot - what a wonderful backdrop. Truly a nature's stage. Love to see that one blown up to, oh, 50" wide or so.

Great work

Thanks Paul! Yes, it was indeed a great day in the field. Then again, any day I can be outside doing what I enjoy, is a great day in the field. I went out and sat in this spot for a while tonight in a cold windy rain. I figured the deer wouldn't be moving with the weather the way it was, but I still wanted to get out the house. It started raining about 8:00 this morning and didn't stop all day. The temp has dropped and now it's snowing!

I spent a lot of time outside in the rain today, and didn't get any photos, but it was still great to be outside!

Too bad you didn't see any deer, the first snow usually gets them moving around... also makes them easier to see

Yes indeed. I'm looking forward to some deer in the snow shots. The rain didn't turn to snow till after dark tonight, so I'm hoping to get out tomorrow in some fresh powder. I haven't check the weather so I don't know what to expect, or if it will even last through tomorrow. I'm keeping my fingers crossed!

Re: Buck Fever

Thanks for taking the time to look and comment Scott and Knight.

Thanks Mods for choosing that image as the featured photo too! For anyone interested, I put a larger version of the pano image in my gallery. I also lightened the FG, and darkened the BG. You can see it here.
