Hey guys, i'm looking for a cheap wide angle lense to use. I found this one http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/cont...goryNavigation Is it worthwhile? is there better options for around the same price? thanks

    Re: canon wide angle

What camera are you going to use it with? That's Canon's EF-S kit lens. It isn't compatible with 35mm SLRs or older digital SLRs. It's also not the greatest quality lens, although it's not as bad as kit lenses used to be. What do you want to shoot with it? Do you really need a zoom? Have you considered getting a fast prime like the Canon 20mm f/2.8?

    I'm using a 20d and it doesn't have to be a zoom.

I would recommend looking at the Sigma, Tamron, and Tokina options. They make very good lenses. And I think you're likely to get better quality for less money if you go with a third-party lens maker.

Also consider if you ever upgrade cameras, you most likely won't be able to use that lens. Like PJ said, check out third parties. you'll get some good quality out of them.

Forget the Canon 20mm prime on a digital camera. About 2 years ago, I posted some examples of this 20mm lens compared to the cheap kit lens. The kit lens beat the 20mm prime by a wide margin. Perhaps the sample pics are still in the archives somewhere.

The 20mm was great on my film cameras but a rabid dog on digital. I don't know why the difference should be that large, it just is!

I've been more than happy with my 20mm. Since I have the 10-22mm right now, I guess I'm obligated to do a serious comparison, huh? Maybe you got a bad 20mm. Or maybe I just don't pay that much attention to image quality

    We'll see
