    Back from Glacier

Even though we hit bad weather, the main road being closed, and more bad weather it was still a great trip.

Glacier's beauty is amazing. We were able to see several grizzly bears with cubs, a coyoyte, and I was even blessed to come within 10 feet of a big horn sheep. It was running through the parking lot...

If you like waterfalls, then this is the place. Also, Waterton Park in Canada is also spectacular.

So with the bad weather photo ops were few and far between, and with my large format learning curve missed a couple of great shots.

Here are a few from the 35 mm.

Glad to hear you had a good trip even tho the weather wasn't what you wanted. I have never been to Glacier, but it's on the "list". All these pics are beautiful, but the first and last are my favorites! Looking forward to seeing more from this trip.

Loren, these are awesome! The last one of the reflections just blows me away. The land framing the water and the leading lines of the shoreline to the mountains, really accentuates this shot. This one should be blown up into a poster for sure!!!

WOW - Been There, Never Done That!
Agree with the others - awesome. And especially the last one - definitely should be hanging on someone's wall, or in a travel brochure, etc. Fantastic Comp & color.

I like #2. The rainbow isn't one of those brilliant ones which makes it work in this scene better.
#3 just sucks you right in doesn't it.

    Loren,
I'm happy to hear you had such a wonderful trip. I agree with all that has been expressed about these images. As always, you do a superb work at composition, and the colors are beautiful. Stunning indeed!

I love rainbows as they have been a source of inspiration at different times in my life. Your rainbow shot is beautiful - love the tree toward the right in that image. My favorite is the last one. What a photograph - looks like it should be in National Geographic. The composition, reflections....especially the color.....everything is just perfect.

Thanks for sharing your trip! Your photography is always an inspiration.

    Re: Back from Glacier

    Thanks Liz,

Karen and I had a good time, although we always come back tired. Next year I've promised to let her scuba dive while I take care of the baby. No wild trips or exhausting photo trips for awhile.

It was a lot of fun taking the last shot because people would pull up, walk down and just be speechless about Lake MacDonald. The scenery was breathtaking and I was just lucky to be there... I have a large format shot from that location so I hope to get that one scanned.

    Have a great day Liz..

    Hi Gene,

I am sorry that you were not able to make it up. You and Penny would just love it. For the bears, I was a little freaked out but the bears at first but luckily did a couple of hikes.

When I scan some more slides I will post them.

    Cheers,

    Re: Back from Glacier

    Greg,

Thanks for taking the time to look at the photos and my website. It's good to hear about which photo people like. These scans are really quick, but the third photo was pure luck. I overslept and drove as fast as I could to get to the location.... a whopping 1/2 mile from the hotel because I really overslept!!

This was the last bit of sun for the rest of the day. So I feel good that I got at least one set of photos for the day.

    Thanks again,
    Loren

    Re: Back from Glacier

    Thanks Michael,

I think Glacier was the best national park that I have been to in awhile. Now it's time to slave away at the scanner to make these shots respectable.

    Re: Back from Glacier

    Hi Ken,

Based on the response, I think I will get this shot drum scanned and enlarged. I have a large format slide from the same location that actually turned out.

Thanks for the time and the comments..

    Best regards,

    Re: Back from Glacier

Congrats on the retirement. I looked at your website.

I believe that timing is the most important part of national park photography. When I was leaving a location at sunrise most people were showing up, and the vice versa for sunset. I am lucky to have a suportive wife on these trips to allow me to photograph at crazy ass times. It's her turn to have a vacation next year.

Thanks for the comments.. and I look forward to seeing your work on Photographyreview in the near future.
