    Playing with a Kit Lens

Had an idea to try out the old kit lens (EF 24-85mm f/3.5-4.5) that originally came with my 10D. Blew off the dust, stuck 1 tube (36mm) and off I went this evening.

All were taken at ISO 400, mostly around 85mm, and hand-held. Hope they'll good enough to prove that an expensive lens isn't necessary to have fun!

Alright Loupey we get the point! You are the tube god and we should bow down only as your humble servants. All kidding aside Loupe, you are the man when it comes to tubes, you even have me looking for some and trying my hand at it. Keep them coming...

Once again I applaud you! stunning series Loupey, you are the "Macro Man"!

I agree with the lense theory as well, my 18-55mm that came with my 20D, not the greatest lense but i have often got good family gathering pictures, and near decent dog portraits.

Cant wait til tomorrow! a day off and time to go and play with my tubes (Yuk that sounded horrid).

Another good batch of macros. I don't think they are as sharp and crisp as some of your others. That doesn't mean that they are not good just that I think some of the others are sharper. At any rate the point you are making is a good one. We don't have to have the biggest, baddest lens in the world to go out and shoot very nice macros and get very exceptable results. I for one know that I get hung up on that at times. A few years ago I had given my son an old 200mm lens that I though was just not up to my standards any more. I never used it. He came back with some of the nices and sharpest rose pictures that I had seen in a long time. Just goes to show, many times it's in the user not the equipment and don't let your preconcieved ideas about a piece of equipment color your judgement of it's results.
Don't forget about the Gallery. Are your photos there??

Yeah, I hear you on that kit lense theory. My 100-400 came with my camera and I have been making due for years

Ok seriously... Way back in my nikon film days, I got many a great image with a "crappy" 28-80 or 28-200. I for one can have fun shooting any camera and lens, because it's the experience that fun, not the gear

Is it me or do we have the most fun-loving bunch of people in this forum compared to the other forums?

Especially compared to that Photo as Art one - yikes! Who knew "art" could be so confrontational. I'm not stepping in there (unless I can shoot some insects fighting and throw that in there for kicks )

Yeah, I was just going to say that we act the way we do by example. We have a leader that likes to moon everybody, a woman who plays with her tubes, procreation threads, ....

Sheesh. Paul, I hope your boss doesn't stop in here and see all the goings on.

Dude... I am my boss!!!! My clients can kiss my (image in viewfinder) if they don't like who I am .

The word "likes" misrepresents me . I did it on a whim and sort of wish I hadn't. No big deal to me, but obviously it's a big deal to others who can't get away with such a wonderful image

I think we're talking about different things. I was referring to PJ of this site. I have no interest in knowing what/how people derive their personal incomes or what they do off-site.

    Anyway, point taken

I am a paid photog part time and have no real 9-5 to speak of right now .

PJ isn't my "boss" and is a bit rebellious himself or have you not been to the MTB review bourds(I have briefly), That bourd has many a "me" on it
