    Unhappy Format Error

Hi. I have a Premier SL-8 digital camera. I have two Secure Digital cards for it, a 128 MB and a 512 MB, but both show 'Format Error' when the camera is switched on. The cards work OK in a card reader, but the 512 is blank. The 128 still has the pictures on it, but the file system is shown as 'unknown'. The pics have always been transferred to PC using the card reader rather than the USB camera link. I have tried reformatting the 512 as both FAT and FAT32, to no avail. I am loath to buy new cards if mine can be recovered. Maybe they should be de-formatted, so to speak, but I can't figure out how. Anyone help? Please. Thanks for looking anyway.

OK, I've figured it out. I just had to find the 'Format' function on my camera. Now done.

It's always best to format a card in the camera that it will be used with. I always re-format my cards after downloading, before using them again. Glad it worked!

All the stuff I've read the flash cards use FAT16. You may have to use a file recovery program to get the photos off the 128 MB card. The cards may have to be formated in the camera if the camera doesn't like the card reader format..

I was able to get the pics from the card because it worked OK in the card reader, just not in the camera. I've now reformatted the cards in the camera and they work fine now. Thanks for your attention.

    Re: Format Error

I have purchased Sony Cyber shot T-20 digital camera online from a shopping site. I am getting "File Error" message in the photographs. I visited to sony's auth. service center and they said your camera is OK and the problem is in ur memory stick.
I suggest to all please purchase from the authrized showroom only.
